A Welcoming Space Winner: Richard Price
Richard Price, is a building and information modeling (BIM) engineer from Ridge & Partners LLP in the United Kingdom. Richard describes his design, “The crux of my design is based around the early Christian symbol of the “ichthys” (a.k.a. “The Jesus Fish”) which means “Jesus Christ, Son of God.”
Design Competition:
University Baptist Church (UBC), Charlottesville, VA, sought applicants to create a welcoming park between the church parking lot and West Main St., Charlottesville. The church wishes to provide a green space for residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors in the center of the city. Following the protests in August 2017, the church felt a renewed desire to create a welcoming space.
All designs must be approved by the City of Charlottesville’s Board of Architectural Review (BAR). The total budget allocated was $10,000. The competition was launched on June 2, 2019 and participants were notified of the decision including comments on November 6, 2019.
University Baptist Church will donate $1,000 to a charity chosen by the person who submits the winning design, and approved by the Church Council.
